Plus One

This is old news by now, but we're having a baby!

It all started when we got married and made a 5-year plan. We would wait until we were married for 5 years before having a baby. It would give us plenty of time to finish all of our schooling, travel some, practice being responsible with a dog, and make sure we were completely ready. A lot happened in those 5 years, and we're definitely glad that we waited! We had a blast and got to spend such quality time together.

This Fall we decided that, with Tanya's dance studio, it would be ideal to have a baby in the Summer. That way she wouldn't have to put classes on hold for 6 weeks in the middle of the year and could get back on her feet before starting classes again in the Fall. We decided to try and see what happened, and it happened fast! She's due August 1st.

We found out on Thanksgiving morning that Tanya was pregnant. We decided we would wait until Christmas to tell our families, and longer for everyone else. It was hard (but fun) having a secret that only we knew about. During my family's Christmas dinner we decided to tell everyone. We had all these plans of how we would do it, and they kept falling through, so we just took a big family picture and right before the timer went off I yelled "everyone say Tanya's pregnant!" No one believed it so they didn't react until we confirmed that it was actually true. Then they screamed!

For Tanya's family, we wrapped up a little baby University of Utah sweatsuit under her dad's University of Utah sweatpants that we gave him. When he opened it, he thought the pants were for their dog! Everyone was excited. This is the first grandbaby on Tanya's side.

Tanya's pregnancy has been pretty by-the-book. She was sick from about weeks 6 to 12. We were supposed to find out the gender at 18 weeks, but being the planners that we are we got impatient, went to fetal foto at the mall at 14 weeks, and found out we were having a BOY! We were both expecting a girl, so it definitely took us by surprise. Then we got to planning and shopping for our little gentleman.

Tanya's getting pregnanter e'rry day and I love it! We can't wait to meet our booper.

The Rest

Somehow we forgot to blog for 5 months. Oops. Here's (more or less) what's happened since we last blogged in August:

This summer we decided to finish our basement into a dance and fitness studio. In September, Tanya started teaching little girl dance classes (ages 3-11). She's still a high school health and PE teacher by day, but by night she comes home and teaches 5 dance classes a week! It's been hard and busy, but it's a good thing for us. And it's pretty darls.

This is before

And here's the after. It has a bumpin' sound system, mirrors galore, a ballet barre, and some bamboo dance floors. Not too shabby!

Fallz was yallz as alwayz

At the beginning of December we celebrated our 5-year wedding anniversary. Say what? We had an overnight date to Park City, with shopping at the outlets and an amazing dinner at Cafe Terigo on Main Street.

In the middle of December I graduated with my MBA from the University of Utah. It was a tough 2 years, and it's SUCH a relief to be done and have my nights back! They threw us a grad dinner with our spouses at Rodizio Grill and it was fun to hang with the gang one last time and have Tanya meet the guys I've spending my nights with!

Christmas was amazing as always. We spoiled ourselves rotten and spent tons of time with family. We rode the Polar Express in Heber and had lots and lots of dinners and traditions. We also spent lots of time loving on our little pride and joy, Remington Bear.

Then we tried something different this year: On Christmas day we flew to San Diego with Tanya's family (including her Grandma/Aunt and Uncle/Cousins). GamGam's dying wish was to go to SeaWorld, so she paid for a house for all of us. The tickets were cheap because we flew on Christmas and New Year's Day (when not a lot of people want to travel). The house was AMAZING. It had a pool and hot tub, fire pit, theatre room, tennis court, and tons of space for all of us. It was up on a hill in the "mountains" with amazing views.

The weather was in the 70s every day. It was so nice to wear t-shirts and shorts again!

We went to the San Diego Safari Park and saw rhinos, giraffes, and lots of other cool animals

We also went to the San Diego Zoo and saw more animals

We had lots of beach time in Carlsbad and Oceanside

SeaWorld

It was also fun to see Christmas stuff in the warm weather

Tanya's dad Bart and I had an intense tennis match

More beach time

At Oceanside, we rented an off-road wheelchair and pushed GamGam down the beach and in the waves. She loved it!

And then we rang in the new year at the house with a BBQ

2013 was pretty great - but we're thinking that 2014 will be even better!

Hello Seattle

After Portland we took a mini road trip to Seattle for a few days. It was fun to be able to be in a big city, the mountains/country, and the beach all in one day. We stayed with my mom's best friend and her family. They live in an amazing house on Mercer Island about 10 minutes outside of the city, with a view of Mt. Ranier. They have a doc and paddle boards and a boat and jet ski - it was pretty much like staying at a resort!

Once again we headed straight for the food and spent the next 4 days eating our way through the city. We ate at Italian Family Pizza, Bainbridge Crepes, Serious Biscuit (amazing biscuits and gravy), Mora (ice cream), Molly Moon's (more ice cream), Dick's Drive-In, Paseo (famous caribbean sandwiches), Specialty's (cookies), and Pepperdock (fish n' chips and burgers).

Way good ice cream, but still not as good as Salt & Straw in Portland

Macklemore had filmed his newest music video on the roof of this Dick's the weekend before

Alki Beach

The next day we took our car on the ferry to Bainbridge Island. We shopped, ate, walked around, and hiked. It was a charmer!

Oscar the Optima loved his first boat ride

Future vacation home?

Life motto?

Oversized novelty strawberry?

There were awesome views of the city from the ferry.

Wind-blown

The next day we went shopping, to the Space Needle, and then to Capital Hill for more shopping and eating.

At the tippy top

We finished the night wakeboarding and paddle boarding on Lake Washington

On our last day we tried to pack everything else in that we wanted to do. We started the morning at Pike Place with the fishes and farmer's market goods.

The gum wall - classic!

I lick it? I lick it.

Flying fish

Amazing bouquets of flowers for $5

Theeee best peaches

Then we took a scenic drive to Snoqualmie Falls

Then we spent the rest of the night at Alki Beach, across the water from the city. We rented a little surrey bike, shopped, watched the sunset, and ate more ice cream!

I wish the trip could have ended on this moment. Unfortunately the next part was a 13 hour drive home - still worth it!
